St. Luke's St. Vincent de Paul Society
Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.

Welcome
The St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP) is an international Christian volunteer organization dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need, irrespective of faith, ethnicity, age, or gender. It is a lay group founded in 1833 in Paris by Blessed Frederic Ozanam and his companions. Placed under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, it seeks inspiration from his thoughts and works in the spirit of justice and charity.
Who are we?
At St. Luke's we are a varied group of 14 volunteers who meet on the first Sunday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the lower church classroom area. We serve the communities of Belmont, Watertown, and Waltham.

What do we do?
As part of our mission, we strive to assist families to meet their goals. It might be simply by encouraging them with support and prayer. Our society responds to requests for help by first visiting those in need to obtain a more thorough overview of their situation. Then the members decide what the group can do, versus what needs to be referred to other local, state, or federal agencies. Help includes food vouchers; baskets of food; clothing and gifts at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter; referrals to agencies for assistance with emergency shelter, rent, and utilities; clothing and furnishings; food stamps; food pantries; transportation; healthcare; legal advice; debt counseling and career training. When appropriate, we work in collaboration with these agencies. Alternatively, it might be simply encouraging them with support and prayer and helping them take the next step.
SVDP operates several stores in the area including large stores in Framingham and Stoughton, where clothing, furniture, and household goods are available at much reduced costs.
St. Vincent de Paul recognizes that material or financial assistance may help those it visits overcome crises, but developing longer-term solutions to their needs is our eventual hope.
All our funding comes directly from you, through donations. 100% of these funds go directly to those we serve.
