FAQs about Giving to New Roads

What is the best way for me to give and for New Roads to receive my gift?
The easiest and most effective way to give is online. You can set up online giving to either parish using the links below:
St. Joseph Online Giving
St. Luke Online Giving
We recommend giving directly from your checking or savings account (ACH) rather than by credit card. This method avoids processing fees, so more of your gift directly supports the mission of New Roads.

Why does New Roads have two giving platforms?
WeShare is our main platform for ongoing online giving—especially for recurring gifts and pledges. GiveButter is a secondary option we added during COVID to make one-time giving easier. It offers features like text-to-give and payment through Apple Pay, Venmo, and other digital wallets. In the coming year, we plan to transition to one giving platform that will serve all our giving needs.

Is my giving to New Roads tax-deductible?
Yes! We are recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization under the group exemption for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Please note that contributions should be made to St. Joseph Parish or St. Luke Parish (“New Roads Catholic Community” is the name of our collaborative, not a separate legal entity).

Will New Roads provide a letter noting my contributions for tax purposes?
We’re happy to provide a written acknowledgment letter for anyone who requests one. However, our online giving platform provides access to an end-of-year statement that can be used for this purpose. Many parishioners no longer need a printed letter for tax purposes since most take the standard deduction, but we’re always glad to provide one upon request—just let us know! You can email us at [email protected] if you’d like a letter.

How can I change or update my recurring gift?
You can log in to your online giving account anytime (using the links above) to adjust your gift amount, frequency, or payment method. If you need help making changes, just email us at [email protected] and we’ll be glad to assist.

Can I give by check or through my IRA, donor-advised fund, or stock transfer?
Yes! Checks can be made payable to St. Joseph Parish or St. Luke Parish and mailed or dropped in the collection basket. We also gratefully accept gifts through donor-advised funds, qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), or stock transfers. For assistance, contact Tom McHugh, Finance & Operations Manager, at [email protected].

How does New Roads spend the money that’s given?

We take financial stewardship seriously. Every gift supports our shared mission—to reach people who have become disconnected from faith and to help each person grow as a disciple of Jesus. Your giving funds everything that makes New Roads come alive each week: worship, kids and family programs, pastoral care, hospitality, communications, technology, and the maintenance of our parish facilities. Our Finance Council works closely with Fr. Thom and our staff to ensure transparency, accountability, and wise management of all resources. Quarterly financial reports for each parish are available on our website and updated regularly to keep our community informed. For more information, please contact Tom McHugh, Finance & Operations Manager, at [email protected] or 617-484-1996 ext. 53.

Can I include New Roads in my will or estate plans?
Yes! Planned gifts are a wonderful way to leave a lasting legacy of faith. You can include St. Joseph Parish or St. Luke Parish in your estate plans, using our full legal parish name and address. If you’d like more information or sample language to share with your attorney or financial planner, please contact us at [email protected].
